Originally, I had waxed my wardrobe with Miss Mustard Seed's Clear Wax.
It wasn't bad, but after some serious buffing, it didn't shine up like I was hoping.
I decided to make the trek out to Windsor to Bumbledee to pick up some Annie Sloan Clear and Dark Wax. My self-control evaporated and I bought more or less every colour chalk paint they carry.
I also picked up a large wax brush, which made application incredibly easy.
I found the dark wax looked a bit speckly when applied, but not in an unattractive way.
Then I buffed. And buffed. And buffed.
I used a ratty old t-shirt. I found that a lot of the dark wax buffed off (which toned it down quite a bit.)
But the Annie Sloan wax gave a far superior shine than the original coat of wax.
I really like how the dark wax emphasizes the texture and grain of the wood.
The chalk paint on its own was a bit flat.
This is one of the main panels. It is hard to see the gloss, but the sheen is similar to a satin varnish.
I absolutely love how the paint chipped around the bottom of the cabinet.
This kind of paint can be a bit of a crapshoot, so I was very pleased with the results.
This photo gives the best idea of the colouring and finish given by the combination of clear and dark wax.
This is the finished wardrobe!
